Tartar sauce is a favorite condiment in our home. We use it on bread with various pieces of meat, like Roast Beef, but I think it works best with fish, and fish cakes (which Norwegians love). Just together with potatoes is also yummy. The tartar sauce can also be used as a substitute to “Tonnato” on the famous, italian Vitello Tonnato.
This is what you need:
1 ½ dl real mayo (you get extra points if you make it from scratch)
½ dl sour cream
2 tablespoons of chopped capers
2 tablespoons of chopped pickles
1 finely chopped shallot
1 tablespoon of chopped paisley
1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon
1 pinch of salt
3 rounds of freshly grounded pepper
Just stir it all together, and enjoy
Before you serve it, taste it, and see if you prefer more of any of the ingredients. I usually add more Dijon, just because I love it!
