This vintage, but non-dated Champagne from Krug is crisp, full of minerals and stunning!
Even if this is a non-vintage bottle, we know that it is from between 1978 and 1982 because of the label used by Krug at that time. The cork indicates that the bottle has a base from 1979, but you can´t be sure.
Right from the start, it smells relatively open, minerals and yummy. After a few minutes in the glass, the Krug opens up even more. The first taste is strong citrus combined with soft, yellow fruits. There are a lot of minerals in this bottle, and it is very fresh, which never seizes to amaze me when I drink a bottle this old. And like most older Champagnes, it grows both in taste and substance when given more time and as the temperature becomes less chilled.
Very well balanced and extremely good. If you can get your hands of a bottle like this, grab it!
I served this bottle with hazel nuts from Piedmont and Bellota ham.
