If you want to stay at a small, eco-friendly and quiet hotel with a private beach, great service and wonderful atmosphere in the Cycklades, Coco-Mat is your best choice. 

It takes a bit of research and enthusiasm to find exceptional and stylish hotels in the smaller Greek Islands, but they are there… And one of the most unique and outstanding choices is Coco-Mat at Vagia Beach in Serifos.

We have stayed at this hotel three times now, and since our first visit the price has increased, they have become a member of the DesignHotels.com and their rooms fill up faster. When discovering small hide-aways like this, it is tempting to stay silent, and keep it to ourselves, but this hotel is just too good not to share!

The hotel buildings are 100 years old miners-homes, built into the surrounding rocks. This give the rooms, or apartments, a cave-like feeling, but it also keeps them chilled, which can be of great advantage when the temperature increases.

The interior is simpel and minimalistic. No glam and no unnecessary stash, but absolutely everything you need. The two stories apartments have one bedroom, two bathrooms and a sleeping cove downstairs. It has a large living-room with a dining table and a kitchen. If you like to cook, just ask for appliances, and you’ll get what ever you need. There is also a patio with a dining table and a very comfy sun-bed for two. Make sure you ask for the rooms with the best view towards the beach and the never-ending sea.

The private beach is covered with round, small stones that becomes comfortably warm in the sun. It has stylish, straw umbrellas and super-comfy, big beanbags for you to chill on. But the best part is still the rocks on the right hand side, where you can sunbath and dive into the warm, blue and amazingly clear water. It is the perfect place to spend hours in the sun and snorkel.

  The bar at Coco-Mat serves tasty drinks all day long, and the restaurant is quite modern and stylish. But our favorite meal here is the breakfast. The freshly squeezed juice, home-made cereal with yoghurt and fruit is to die for. They also serve your choice of eggs in addition to the standard ham, cheese and sweets.

 The combination of all the things mentioned above makes this hotel quite unique. But the number one reason why we keep on coming back is still the ambience and the service. Every guest is treated like a rockstar, but with an excessive amount of humor and love. Coco-Mat Serifos is definitely on my top five list of all the best hotels in the world!
