Bar del Pla is a sister restaurant to the more upscale Pla, situated in the Gothic area in Barcelona. Bar del Pla is much more relaxed and down to earth, but the food is just as good. Perhaps even better, considering the prices and selection.
I always love it when I meet enthusiastic waiters with passion for their trait and the food and drinks they serve. Several of them work at Bar del Pla. Our last visit to this place was one of the highlights of that particular trip, and the woman serving us that night may have recommended us the best Spanish wine I have ever tasted. It was a Ribera del Duero from Pago de los Capellanes, El Nogal from 2005. I usually prefer the wines from Duero to the the Riojas, because the latter often has too much oak in it, but this wine was fantastic, even after 22 months on French oak. For me, this wine was perfect! It had a beautiful color, and was still fresh, elegant and fruity.
Bar del Pla is a tapas restaurant with a great selection of wine and beer. And EVERYTHING on the plate is good. The ham, the cheese, the potata bravas and the cooked chorizo, the anchovies and the tomato salad, but most of all, the crispy beef with foie gras and the tuna tartar. But even the tomato-rubbed toast tastes especially good here.
Bar del Pla is the kind of place you can visit over and over again. You just don´t get tired of the ambience, the food, the wine, the prices, or the service. It is almost like you become a part of the family, or at least become a good friend when dining here. We have been eating here as a couple and as a family of five. It is a place for every one and every occasion. They are open every day but Sunday and serve food from noon to eleven at night.
Bar del Pla is on my top ten list for sure!
