Geist is a fashionable restaurant in the heart of Copenhagen with exciting ingrediences and unique combinations at great value.
Already when you enter the backyard and the entrance area of Geist, you´ll know that this is a stylish place. Stepping inside, this impression is confirmed. The design of the place is modern but warm, and I especially loved the downstairs area with the visible wine cellar and mirror-covered ceiling. You can choose to dine in the restaurant with the round, white-linen covered tables, or in the more chilled bar area.
I also loved the menu here. Best appreciated at the lovely bar while nipping to one of their specialty drinks. You may even get lucky and enjoy a “show” from the bartender while he lights one of the drinks on fire. The menu has various dishes listed describing their ingredients and style. I enjoyed the distinctive combinations, like silver onions with sesame and ginger or crayfish tartar with yuzu. Other good dishes were the spinach, cauliflower and lambs heart. Everything I tasted was both good and exciting, but almost all of the dishes were too large for my taste. We ended up feeling full and didn´t get to try as many of the dishes as we liked.
The drink list is perhaps more impressive than the wine list here, but we enjoyed a bottle of Champagne. André Beaufort makes a good, organic Brut that is powerful enough to work well with various types of food, because it has both Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in addition to Chardonnay in it.
I really liked the atmosphere at this place, and the staff was casual and smiling. As long as you don´t order too many dishes, a meal at Geist will be a great experience.
