The W Hotel in Seminyak, Bali is a big hotel with whopping sized rooms, three great restaurants, an unforgettable spa and everything else you need for a few days of complete luxury.
The famous letter W on a hotel is a sign of great design, good service and excellent hotel experiences. I have stopped by the one in Barcelona for lunch, but I have never stayed at one before, so we were quite happy to check into the Seminyak W in Bali when we arrived on our first day in Bali.
First of all, it is quite big. The building itself, seen from the beach, isn´t the most beautiful, but the entrance is impressive with a driveway covered in bamboo threes formed as a large tunnel, and then several meters with statues, small waterfalls and flowers.
The room we had was very large and had two double beds, a huge bathroom with a window in the ceiling and a terrace. The interior was minimalistic but cozy, and we really enjoyed hanging out here. I recommend ordering breakfast at the room. Very tasty and laidback.
The pool area is large and has various places to enjoy the sun. The staff always locates a couple of sunbeds for you, and they make sure that your every need is covered throughout your stay. The best part of the pool, according to the kids, was the huge beany-bags floating on the water.
There are three restaurants at the W, and they are all good, some of them excellent. The Wood Bar is the perfect lunch place if you just want a small snack or drink. The mini-kobe burger was to die for, and their Cesar salad and dumplings were also yummy. This is also a great place to enjoy your sunset drinks, burying yourself in one of those soft and wonderful chairs, listening to the music turn from chill to upbeat.
The Starfish Bloo has excellent Asian food, and the kids were thrilled about their sushi. I loved their soup, but everything we tried was above average. The interior here was very hip and minimalistic. Loved it!
The best meal at W was served us at Fire. They have all the best meat you can think of, in addition to delicious other stuff to barbeque. Everything here goes on the grill, and it is done to perfection, but it is quite pricy. This restaurant also had a decent wine list when it comes to red, and we finally got to enjoy a glass of pinot noire.
You cannot stay at the W and not visit the SPA. I am not talking about the gym, which is actually quite decent, but behind the sliding glass doors lays a little piece of heaven. It is very large, clean and sleek, and the various choices of treatment will keep you happy for hours. I tried a facial and a Balinese massage. Both excellent.
The area outside the hotel is low key. Not a lot of shops, but a few very good restaurants. We took a taxi to the main shopping- and party area of Seminyak a few times, and there really are some good stuff to take home. Especially for those of us who love bohemian interior design.
If you are a fan of large designer hotels with excellent service and high quality treatments and food, The W in Seminyak is the perfect place for you to stay.
