Matbaren by Mathias Dahlgren in Stockholm is a down-to-earth restaurant where you get the freshest, seasonal ingredients accompanied by a splendid wine list.
I love to sit in the bar whenever I can. Not just for drinks, but where ever they serve easy-going food in a stress-free environment. It almost feels like you are in someone’s kitchen when you can watch the chefs and the staff creating and gather the stuff you will get to enjoy. Both the food and the wine. A bar like Matbaren creates a wonderful ambience and makes an excellent location for a laidback night out.
There are several good dishes to choose from the menu, but I have to admit that my favorite dish at Matbaren is their amazing bread and butter. Paired with a good beer, or a mature and powerful Champagne, which was our choice for the night, there is nothing like it. But the crisp salad, vivid mushrooms, elegant tartar and juicy steak, were also tasty. And the steamed bun with fried chicken and coriander was legendary.
All of these dishes went well with our bottle of Initial Champagne by Jacques Selosse. But, as always, when the meat is served, the craving for something red appears. Sylvain Cathiards Louis Saint Georges, Aux Murgers 2007 was our pick. The brilliant thing about dining at Matbaren is that you get access to the wine list from Matsalen, which is Mathias Dahlgrens two star restaurant, and the wine list is quite impressive. So, for a relaxed night out with excellent wine and some good dishes, Matbaren is a good choice.
