Germany is so much more than autobahn, bratwurst and Blue Nun!
I have great memories of Germany from growing up. For us, going to germany meant that everything came in bulks and everything was less expensive than it was at home.
Today, I have a completely different perception of the country. It is beautiful, especially when driving through the valleys like Mosel and Rhone. Looking down at the river curving its way down and looking up at the grapes growing on such steep hills that I have trouble understanding how the farmers manage to take care of them. I love to see the old castles along the road and the characteristic houses in black and white. I am in love with the Riesling grape, they have great beer and I even love the bratwurst!
Germany has lovely small towns along the smaller roads, and Berlin is a big city ready to welcome those of us who love to shop and eat well.
Germany is no longer just a country we have to pass through on our way to France and Italy. We choose to drive the smaller roads among the valleys and wonderful and smaller villages. I highly recommend taking these detours from the autobahn, especially during the spring.
