In the smallest village in France, Williers, lays the most charming hotel I have ever been to. While driving towards it, the closer we got, the more sure I was that we had the wrong address. We were so far out in the countryside and the few people we passed, paused and watched the car on its way further into nothing.
I will never forget the beautiful sight when we drove up the small hill and parked by the church right by Chez Odette. There were no signs or ads telling us that we had reached our destination, and it was absolutely stunning. Small, lush and heart filled. Rarely have I been to a hotel with so much soul and atmosphere. The ambience was almost unreal, both on the outside and inside. I could stay here forever…
The interior of the restaurant, lounge area and the rooms are all stylishly modern. All the walls and floors are painted black, and the rooms are decorated with elements from the nature, like sheep rugs and antlers, supplemented with interesting books and loads of candles.
The hotel has a breakfast room, bar and a restaurant. All though the relaxed atmosphere is lovely when it comes to the hotel and its surroundings, I didn´t expect the same pace from the staff. The food and wine that we ordered was good, but slow. But being in a lovely place like that, I would have forgiven almost everything.
Chez Odette is suitable for families, friends and lovers, or even on your own if you are just looking for a quiet place for a while. They had an antique bowling alley set up right in front of the restaurant, and plenty of green grass for the kids to play at. And somehow I think the calm atmosphere rubbed off on the few kids that were there. There was no noise.
I believe most of their guests are tourists passing by on their way somewhere else, but I know that if I ever end up in this picturesque village again, I would stay for a few extra days.
